5.11 MISSION READY™ 3.0 90L BAG Review

I travel about once a month and about half of that time it is usually overseas in austere conditions.  I’ve destroyed my share of bags through wear and tear, and I’ve come to know a good bag from a cheap bag.

Once I received the Mission Ready™ 3.0 90L bag I was off and out the door on a few trips. I’ve traveled three times since receiving the bag and already have more trips scheduled. The bag is a near perfect size for everything I need for a 5-7 day trip overseas or for teaching an out of town, 2-day firearms class.

Modern Samurai Project Red Dot Pistol Review

This was the first course that I shot exclusively carrying AIWB because I knew Appendix carry would be covered. I have carried AIWB before, but the majority of my students still carry strong side so I don’t get a lot of practice from AIWB and was looking forward to the opportunity. For me, one of the biggest things I picked up was the method for drawing from surrender and positioning of the firearm.

Review: SIG Sauer M400 Tread

Function testing was done with an additional 350 rounds of Federal XM193 during a fast-paced AR-15 class given by Green Ops firearms training in Northern Virginia. Reliability throughout the course was perfect with no stoppages except for a few caused by aftermarket mags. Remember what I wrote earlier about parts being 100-percent compatible? Well, these words rang true because the SIG-supplied Magpul magazine worked every time while the substitutes worked part of the time.

Defying Labels: Sig Sauer MCX RATTLER PSB

Even after nearly two decades of attending firearms courses, the Green Ops experience rejuvenated my commitment to seek out training. Mike Green is the force behind the training received. His credentials—the ones he can report publicly—lend legitimacy to his methods. Green served in the Army, for which he was Special Forces and Ranger qualified (15 years). Mike taught thousands of students to shoot and trained hundreds of foreign Tier 1 units.

Glock Airsoft Review

When most people think of Airsoft, they think of replica toy guns, games or MilSim  entertainment. In the tactical community, calling someone an “airsofter” is generally considered an insult. The fact is that Airsoft is growing in popularity not just for entertainment but also within the tactical community. Several years ago I went to a Firearms Instructor course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and during the two-week course they gave a block of instruction that covered Non-Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA). I was surprised to hear that they were using airsoft and that they had done quiet a bit research and testing.  At the time, they were also reaching out to Airsoft manufacturers and requesting their products be more ruggedized for training.

Do You Want to Be Safe Around Guns?

Most Certainly You Do, So Read this Article (The Cardinal Rules of Firearm Safety)

By some accounts there are supposedly over 300 million firearms privately owned in the United States. In the year 2016, consumers purchased approximately 25 million new firearms. What does this mean to you? There are guns, lots, and lots of guns, in America. It is a fact, whether you like it or not. By the end of 2014, there were approximately 319 million Americans. What these statistics most likely mean is there is a good chance there are almost as many guns or more in American than people.

What Kind of Shooter Are You?

What kind of shooter are you? Or, what do you shoot? Many people identify as a pistol shooter, or a rifle shooter or a shot gunner. Hopefully, you identify as a serious student seeking to be a highly competent shooter. Other than that, I would like to caution you to try to avoid labels when describing what kind of shooter that you are.

Unique training day: 1,600 rounds in 6 hours

They call him "The Grand Master Whisperer." He's trained hundreds of people — from Special Forces to IPSC Champions — and the stories about his way of training are endless.

But never did I really envision going through 1,600 rounds of 9mm in about six hours, until I had the unique opportunity to train one-on-one with Frank Garcia at his facility, Universal Shooting Academy in Florida.

Recoil Mechanics: How To Manage Recoil and Be Accurate

Many action pistol shooters have the desire to press the trigger as fast as possible while keeping all shots on a target the size of a pie plate when competing. As Ricky Bobby put it in Talladega Nights, “I wanna go fast!” This concept is known as “flash sight picture,” or defensive accuracy. A lot of competitive shooters think if they mash the trigger hard and fast, they’ll be better shooters. Well, that’s not really how it works.

Equal Height, Equal Light: Getting Your Pistol Sights On Target The Right Way

My goal here is to teach beginners how to properly aim a pistol (and correct some errors committed by the more experienced.) Before we get into the tactics, I’d like to reference a quote from the late Pat Rogers, a former NYPD sergeant, Marine Corps warrant officer and firearms training legend: “Folks, it’s not rocket surgery or brain science.” (Needless to say, I share Pat’s sense of humor.)
